Abba Kyari granted bail after 18 months in prison

Abba Kyari, the suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, has been granted bail by the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The bail was granted by Justice James Omotosho in a case where Kyari and his siblings, Baba Kyari and Ali Kyari, are accused of failing to declare assets to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.

The court ruling came in response to an application filed by Kyari, and Justice Omotosho granted him conditional bail with a sum of N50 million, requiring two sureties of the same amount with property worth N25 million within the jurisdiction.

Other conditions include the deposit of international passports, statement of accounts, title deeds of the sureties’ property, and recent passport photographs with the court registrar.

The judge also tied the endorsement of Kyari’s release warrant to the progress of another case pending before

Justice Emeka Nwite, where he is being tried with four others on drug-related charges.

The judge noted that there was no evidence that Kyari was a flight risk and that he had shown willingness to attend his trial. The court adjourned further hearing in the case to October 18.
