Delta and Southwest airlines enforce TikTok ban on employee devices

Delta Air Lines and Southwest Airlines have recently implemented bans on the popular video-sharing app TikTok for their employees.

The decision comes in response to a US Government ban that restricts the presence and use of TikTok on information technology networks, including those used by Federal contractors.

Delta Air Lines has extended the ban to include personal devices connected to its internal network systems, prohibiting the use of TikTok for work-related purposes.

Similarly, Southwest Airlines, as a federal contractor, has also enforced a ban on TikTok on its network since June 28, 2023.

However, the Southwest Social Business and Insights Team will continue to utilize TikTok outside of the airline’s network to communicate with customers.

The bans were prompted by a rule issued by the US Department of Defense, General Services Administration, and National Aeronautics and Space Administration, which prohibits the use of TikTok and other ByteDance applications on government contractor devices used for official business.

These restrictions align with the “No TikTok on Government Devices Act” issued by the White House in February 2023.

It should be noted that personal phones not used for work-related tasks are exempt from these prohibitions.
