Forgery of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge or exemption certificates can lead to imprisonment, fines, or both, warns the NYSC.

Mr. Ahmed Ibrahim, the Director of Legal Services, emphasized this during the 2023 Legal Officers’ Capacity Building Training in Abuja, with the theme “The Role of the Legal Officer in the Defence of the Public Service in Nigeria.”

Ibrahim highlighted that the NYSC Act explicitly outlines the various infractions, including the forging of NYSC certificates.

He mentioned cases where individuals fail to attend or complete their youth service, as required by the Act.

Those who present forged documents during orientation camps are apprehended by the police for prosecution.

While the exact number of such cases in court remains unknown, Ibrahim stated that they are actively pursued.

The court determines the punishment, which could include imprisonment, fines, or both, depending on the severity of the offense.

Brig.-Gen. Yusha’u Ahmed, the Director-General of the NYSC, emphasized the importance of capacity building to enhance efficiency and corporate performance.

The training aims to equip legal officers with the necessary skills and knowledge to fulfill their professional roles in defending the Public Service in Nigeria.
