Over 101 million National Identification Numbers (NINs) have been issued by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), according to the latest data.
In the past six months alone, the NIMC has added 5,935,362 NINs to its database, bringing the total from 95,077,917 in January 2023 to the current figure.
Of the 101 million NINs issued, males account for 57.3 million (56.76%), while females hold 43.57 million (43.2%).
Lagos State has recorded the highest cumulative enrollment, with over 11 million NINs issued to 4.99 million females and six million males.
Other states with significant NIN issuance include Kano (8.9 million), Kaduna (6.2 million), and Ogun (4.2 million).
The NIMC emphasizes the importance of a robust and secure e-identity system for advancing digital infrastructure and promoting financial inclusion.
The Director-General of the NIMC, Aliyu Aziz Abubakar, highlighted the need for a reliable e-identity system as the foundation for digital transactions and financial services.
He stressed the significance of connectivity in the digital age, calling for increased efforts to provide affordable and reliable internet access to all Nigerians, especially those in rural areas.
