Nigeria climbs to 39th position in latest FIFA world ranking

The Nigerian national football team, the Super Eagles, have risen from the 40th to the 39th position in the latest FIFA world ranking.

The updated ranking was released on the official website of FIFA on Thursday, June 29.

In the African continent, the Super Eagles currently hold the sixth position, trailing behind Morocco, Senegal, Tunisia, Algeria, and Egypt.

The team’s upward movement in the ranking can be attributed to their recent victory against Sierra Leone, where they emerged victorious with a 3-2 score in the 2023 AFCON qualifiers.

The Super Eagles’ next and final group match will be a home fixture against São Tomé and Principe in September.

As for the global rankings, Argentina continues to hold the top spot, followed by France, Brazil, England, and Belgium.

The next FIFA world ranking will be published on July 20, 2023.
