Trademore estate designated as disaster zone by FCTA

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has officially designated Trademore Estate, situated along the Lugbe-Airport Expressway, as a disaster zone.

The decision was announced by Mr. Olusade Adesola, the Permanent Secretary of the FCTA, during a visit to the estate, which was severely affected by floods last Friday.

The declaration was made due to the ongoing threat to the lives and properties of residents caused by consistent flooding in Phase 2 of the estate.

Dr. Abbas Idriss, the Director General of the FCT Emergency Management Agency, emphasized that the FCT Administration prioritizes the safety and well-being of the estate’s residents, urging them to relocate to safer areas.

The FCTA’s inspection team, including officials from various agencies such as the FCDA, FEMA, FCT Police Commissioner, and others, accompanied the Permanent Secretary during the visit.

Earlier reports indicated that the flood had submerged a total of 116 houses in the estate.

Witnesses, including Segun Akin, had criticized the government for the recurring floods in the area and called for a comprehensive solution.

Dr. Idriss reiterated the need for residents to heed early warnings and take preventive measures to avoid further flooding incidents in the FCT.
