Osimhen outshines Mahrez and Salah to claim African award

Victor Osimhen, the Nigerian striker, has been awarded the Best African Player accolade at the Ghana Football Awards, surpassing renowned players Riyadh Mahrez and Mohammed Salah.

Osimhen’s outstanding performance last season, scoring 31 goals in all competitions, played a crucial role in Napoli’s Serie A title win after a three-decade-long drought.

His exceptional achievements have earned him numerous awards and record-breaking feats.

Expressing his gratitude in an online video, Osimhen extended his appreciation to the award organizers and assured them of his commitment to making Africa proud.

The announcement was made via the official Twitter account of the Ghana Football Awards.

Acknowledging the significance of the award, Osimhen expressed his honor and thanked those who voted for him and supported him throughout his journey.

He also expressed his gratitude to the organizers for their love and support, emphasizing his dedication to continuing to bring pride to Africa.

Having scored 31 goals for Napoli and contributing significantly to Nigeria’s qualification for the upcoming AFCON, Osimhen’s remarkable season also earned him the top scorer award with 26 goals.

He surpassed the long-standing record held by George Weah, the former World Player of the Year, for the most goals by an African player in Serie A history.
