The United States Department of State has announced the formation of an Energy Security Dialogue with Nigeria following a recent visit by Assistant Secretary for Energy Resources, Geoffrey R. Pyatt.
The dialogue aims to promote collaboration between the two countries on shared energy and climate objectives.
The U.S. Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, highlighted key areas of focus for the dialogue, including energy access, energy security, decarbonization, clean energy supply chains, and methane emissions reduction.
Nigeria, as Africa’s largest democracy, population, and economy, is considered crucial in the global energy transition.
The U.S. government expressed its commitment to supporting Nigeria in achieving its energy and climate goals and plans to host the first Energy Security Dialogue in the upcoming year.
During the visit, both sides emphasized the importance of collaboration in utilizing gas as a transitional fuel and advancing the nation’s decade of gas agenda.
