Tinubu reveals why a naval officer once slapped him in the US

President Bola Tinubu shared an incident from his early life when he worked as a taxi driver in the United States, revealing that a naval officer once slapped him for unintentionally overcharging.

This revelation came to light in a biography titled “Tinubu: My life as gypsy cab driver in the US,” authored by journalist Mike Awoyinfa.

Tinubu explained that he operated as an unlicensed taxi driver in Chicago, primarily picking up passengers from the airport.

He clarified that the driving job was a means to financially support himself before pursuing further education.

Tinubu also mentioned engaging in various menial jobs to supplement his income.

Reflecting on the incident, he recalled the naval officer’s reaction, which included a slap and payment for the correct fare.
