Gas cylinder explosion in Lagos leaves four injured

An explosion occurred in the Ijaiye, Agege area of Lagos State, resulting in injuries to four individuals with varying degrees of severity.

The incident took place early on Monday in a shop where gas cylinders were stored.

According to Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, the explosion was caused by a gas leakage, leading to one of the cylinders catching fire.

Fortunately, there were no fatalities, but the four victims, three females, and one male, suffered second-degree burns.

The injured individuals received immediate medical attention from the agency’s prehospital care and the Lagos State Ambulance Service.

They have since been transferred to Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH).

The combined efforts of LASEMA LRT (Lagos State Emergency Management Agency’s Response Team) and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service successfully extinguished the fire.

A post-incident assessment was conducted, and the affected shop has been cordoned off to prevent any further incidents.
