Cross River State Governor, Bassey Otu, has issued a directive for the immediate suspension of all operations and activities at Marina Resort in Calabar.

The decision comes in the aftermath of a boat accident on June 24, 2023, involving 14 medical students.

While three individuals are feared dead, 11 have been rescued. Governor Otu has also called for a meeting between cruise boat operators and the State Tourism Bureau, scheduled for June 27th, to address the incident.

The State Ministry of Transport has been instructed to thoroughly review the safety standards and conditions of all boats operating in the Calabar waterways.
