Ondo community leader sentenced to death by hanging over murder

A 78-year-old community leader, Ojo Komolafe, has been sentenced to death by hanging for the murder of Taofik Babalola, a school proprietor in the Kajola area of Odigbo council area.

The incident occurred on August 7, 2021. During the trial, four witnesses, including the deceased’s wife, a neighbor, a police officer, and a pathologist, testified.

The wife of the deceased recounted hearing a gunshot and discovering the convict holding a gun.

Komolafe denied the allegations, claiming that the deceased’s wife conspired against him.

However, the presiding judge, Justice Yemi Fasanmi, found contradictions in the defendant’s statement and concluded that the prosecution had presented compelling evidence linking Komolafe to the crime.

As a result, he was sentenced to death by hanging and seven years’ imprisonment.
