Nigerian noodles declared safe and ethylene oxide free by NAFDAC

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) announced on Thursday that noodles manufactured in Nigeria were free from ethylene oxide and its byproducts.

NAFDAC Director-General, Mojisola Adeyeye, revealed the findings during a media briefing conducted to present the outcome of the investigation into the presence of ethylene oxide in locally produced noodles.

The investigation was prompted by the recall of Indomie Instant Noodles Special Chicken Flavour in Malaysia and Taiwan due to alleged traces of ethylene oxide, a compound associated with an elevated cancer risk.

Adeyeye assured the public that thorough investigations were carried out at both the factory and market levels, with samples collected from various regions in the country.

The results indicated the absence of ethylene oxide or its derivative in the tested noodles and seasonings.

Adeyeye emphasized NAFDAC’s commitment to safeguarding public health and maintaining proactive measures in fulfilling its responsibilities.
