The Acting Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Olukayode Egbetokun, has announced the establishment of a specialized Quick Intervention Squad to tackle the increasing menace of crimes and criminality in Nigeria.
During his inaugural conference with Strategic Police Managers in Abuja, Egbetokun emphasized the need to confront crimes head-on and restore the reputation of the Police Mobile Force.
The squad will consist of well-trained personnel equipped with crisis de-escalation skills and strategies to reduce violent crime.
Egbetokun stressed the importance of embracing innovation and technology to counter the evolving landscape of crime.
He highlighted the use of cutting-edge tools, data analytics, and intelligence networks to stay ahead of criminals.
The police will also prioritize the enhancement of the training curriculum, focusing on attitudinal changes, human rights, and citizen-focused policing.
The well-being of officers will be improved, including the establishment of a support and counseling facility.
