In commemoration of World Drug Day, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Kaduna revealed that its operatives had apprehended 420 suspects and confiscated 10,599.97kg of illicit drugs.
The state commander, Ibrahim Braji, shared these statistics during a media briefing held on Thursday. The arrests and seizures took place between January and June 22, 2023.
Out of the total number of suspects, 171 were charged to court, 59 were convicted, and 190 received counseling.
The command also provided rehabilitation for 34 individuals within the review period.
The seized drugs included Indian hemp, heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine, tramadol, and other psychotropic substances.
The campaign for this year focuses on combating stigmatization and discrimination against drug users, emphasizing the need for respect, empathy, prevention, and treatment.
The commander expressed gratitude to the Kaduna government, traditional rulers, NGOs, and the media for their support in the fight against drug abuse and trafficking.
The awareness campaign will extend to places of worship, motor parks, and schools to mark World Drug Day.
