20 witnesses summoned to election tribunal in Calabar

The Chairman of the Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal in Cross River, Justice Oken Inneh, has revealed that the petitioner and the 1st respondent are expected to present a total of 20 witnesses during the proceedings.

Among these witnesses, 17 will be regular witnesses, while 3 will be summoned through subpoenas.

Justice Inneh made this announcement on Thursday during the reading of the Tribunal’s pre-trial decision/ruling in Calabar.

She stated that the panel will commence daily sessions from July 10th, 2023, until all the petitions are concluded.

Justice Inneh outlined the witness lineup for the other respondents. The second and third respondents are scheduled to call 12 witnesses, consisting of 3 regular witnesses and 9 subpoenaed witnesses.

The fourth respondent, on the other hand, will present 8 witnesses, including 7 regular witnesses and 1 subpoenaed witness.

Regarding the witness testimonies, Inneh specified that the examination-in-chief should not exceed 30 minutes per witness, and any reexamination would be limited to ten minutes.

The parties involved will have ten days to present their cases.

The Tribunal also ruled that withdrawn applications, without any objection, would be deemed as withdrawn and subsequently struck out along with the corresponding counter affidavits.
