The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed its willingness to welcome former governor Nyesom Wike if he chooses to defect to their party.
Chief Tony Okocha, a chieftain of the APC and former Chief of Staff at the Rivers State Government House, made this statement during a press briefing in Port Harcourt.
Speculations have been circulating that Wike might leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the APC.
Okocha, who was the coordinator of the BAT-Vanguard in the South-South, emphasized that Wike has the freedom to join any political party.
He acknowledged Wike’s contribution to the ascension of Bola Ahmed Tinubu as Nigeria’s current president and criticized those seeking unearned entitlements.
Okocha urged Wike to promptly join the APC to benefit from his efforts in supporting Tinubu’s presidency.
He reassured that once Wike joins, the party will ensure that those who worked for Tinubu are duly rewarded.
Okocha also condemned the disrespect shown by an aide to PDP’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, who claimed Wike’s health issues were caused by excessive alcohol consumption.
He asserted that the PDP fails to recognize Wike’s influence and capabilities, urging him to lead the APC in Rivers State.
