Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide Vice President, Damian Okeke-Ogene, has urged the Nigerian government to release Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), in response to calls from prominent Nigerians.
Okeke-Ogene emphasized the importance of upholding the rule of law and respecting fundamental human rights to bring stability to the nation.
He criticized ex-Niger Delta militant leader Asari Dokubo’s recent demand for Kanu’s continued detention, seeing it as a self-serving move to gain favor from the government.
Okeke-Ogene stated that the continued detention of Kanu goes against the country’s interests, especially since different courts have already ordered his release.
He assured that Igbo stakeholders are persistent in their efforts to secure Kanu’s freedom.
Okeke-Ogene addressed the demolition of buildings at Alaba Market in Lagos and urged Igbos in the area to remain calm while the leadership of Ohaneze Ndigbo works towards a peaceful resolution.
He commended Anambra Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his commitment to fulfilling his promises and implementing infrastructure projects for the state’s development.
