Renowned American singer Beyoncé has contributed £8,000 to support a struggling Nigerian restaurant in North London that was at risk of closing due to escalating energy bills.
Chuku’s, a Nigerian tapas eatery run by siblings Emeka and Ifeyinwa Frederik, was selected as one of ten recipients of a grant from Beyoncé’s foundation, BeyGOOD.
The foundation had pledged to donate a portion of $1 million (£806,000) to ten businesses worldwide as part of Beyoncé’s Renaissance World Tour initiative.
Chuku’s, which faced financial difficulties since its launch during the pandemic, received the grant during the Black Parade Small Business Impact Luncheon, organized by BeyGOOD to highlight businesses affected by global economic disparities.
The financial boost will aid Chuku’s in weathering the challenges and continue showcasing Nigerian culture in Tottenham.
The Frederik siblings expressed their gratitude and amazement at Beyoncé’s support for their restaurant.
