Vice President Kashim Shettima held a meeting with British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Richard Montgomery, at the State House in Abuja.
Following the meeting, Montgomery spoke with State House correspondents and described the discussions as fruitful, focusing on enhancing bilateral relations between the two countries, particularly in the realm of economic engagements.
Montgomery mentioned that British ministers are positively responding to President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s policies, including the removal of fuel subsidy and the unification of foreign exchange rates.
The British High Commissioner also highlighted his conversation with the Vice President regarding measures to mitigate the impact of these initial policies and address challenges such as inflation and unemployment.
Expressing confidence in the reforms undertaken by Nigeria’s new administration, Montgomery believed that these reforms would contribute to the country’s progress and attract more investments.
He emphasized that the United Kingdom and the City of London view Nigeria as a significant opportunity for future collaboration.
