Ikeja electric faces regulatory complaint over excessive bills

Ogidi Stanley, a customer of Ikeja Electric and an employee of PUNCH Nigeria Limited, has lodged a complaint against the electricity distribution company with the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) regarding exorbitant bills.

Ogidi resides in Adiyan, Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State. His troubles with Ikeja Electric began when he moved into his three-bedroom bungalow in October 2022.

Since then, he claims to have received “unjustifiable and outrageous” electricity bills from the company.

Despite raising concerns and receiving promises of rectification from an Ikeja Electric marketer, the excessive bills persisted.

Ogidi visited Ikeja Electric’s Olambe office in April 2023, where he was informed that he had been registered under the wrong transformer.

The company requested a payment of N20,000 to initiate the mapping process but failed to resolve the issue.

Ogidi’s frustration led him to escalate the matter to NERC, as he continues to receive inflated bills from Ikeja Electric, with the current total amount due standing at N302,859.21.

Attempts to obtain a response from Ikeja Electric’s spokesperson proved unsuccessful.
