FG commences solar power project installation in Makoko community

The Rural Electrification Agency has commenced the installation of decentralized Solar Home Systems (SHS) in the Makoko area of Lagos State, aimed at providing energy access to underserved and off-grid communities.

Mr. Salihijo Ahmad, the agency’s CEO, emphasized that this project, supervised by the Ministry of Power, aims to provide lighting to rural communities as part of the Federal Government’s National Poverty Reduction and Growth Strategy.

The initiative serves as a social service to address the environmental and economic challenges faced by the community.

This installation aligns with the government’s Economic Sustainability Plan and follows a larger visit to other locations in the southwestern region.

The agency plans to assess the impact of the project and engage stakeholders to gather feedback for further improvements.

The decentralized approach to electrification has proven effective, particularly in difficult-to-reach areas like Makoko.

The agency intends to expand the project to enhance the well-being of rural communities across Nigeria by providing solar-powered electricity to schools, hospitals, and households.
