The organizers of Felabration, an annual music festival held in honor of Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, have revealed the dates for this year’s edition.
In a press release distributed to journalists in Lagos on June 16, 2023, it was announced that the festival will take place from October 9 to October 15, 2023.
The theme for Felabration 2023 is “Question Jam Answer,” a renowned song composed by Fela and released in 1972.
This choice aligns with the socio-political atmosphere in Nigeria following the intriguing general election, where people are seeking answers to pressing questions.
Felabration 2023 aims to present a vibrant and genuine display of African music, creativity, and resilience, encompassing various forms of art, dance, fashion, and music.
The festival typically includes events such as The Senior Secondary Schools Debate, The Fela Debates (Symposium), The Afrobics Dance Competition, The Artwork Competition, The Dress Fela Fashion Competition, and The Musical Concert, among others.
According to the organizers, the concert will feature prominent Nigerian musicians as well as foreign artists who are set to perform at the New Afrika Shrine in Ikeja, Lagos.
Felabration, conceived in 1998 by Yeni Anikulapo-Kuti to commemorate her father’s legacy as the creator of Afrobeat and a renowned human rights activist, has grown to become Nigeria’s largest music festival.
It attracts tens of thousands of attendees each year and is now an official tourist destination sponsored by The Lagos State Government.
