Abdulrasheed Bawa, the suspended chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), had a meeting with President Bola Tinubu just hours before his suspension was officially announced by the government.
Photographs show Bawa leaving the State House later in the afternoon, carrying his black bag and wearing a smile.
The details of their conversation are not fully known, but Bawa was among the first agency heads invited to brief the president after his assumption of office on May 29.
Sources close to Bawa revealed that he learned of his suspension from the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).
The Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation issued a statement explaining that Bawa’s suspension was necessary to allow for a proper investigation into allegations of abuse of office.
He has been instructed to hand over his responsibilities to the Director of Operations in the EFCC during the investigation.
This suspension comes shortly after President Tinubu suspended the Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele, pending investigation and financial sector reforms.
