The Kwara State Police Command has officially confirmed the tragic incident that occurred on June 12, 2023, resulting in the death of 106 wedding guests in a boat mishap around the River Niger axis in Patigi Local Government Area.

According to the command’s spokesperson, SP Okasanmi Ajayi, an investigation revealed that the boat, carrying approximately 250 people from Gboti village to Ebu Village and Dzakan Village, capsized after part of it collapsed and allowed water to enter.

Despite efforts to seek help from the villagers, no assistance was rendered in time, leading to the devastating loss of 106 lives.

The statement expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and emphasized the police’s commitment to providing security and support to the rescued victims during their recovery process.
