NCC grants routelink mobile virtual network licence to expand coverage

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has announced the granting of a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) licence to Routelink.

This marks Routelink’s third licence in the country’s telecommunications industry.

The MVNO certification is a new category of mobile licence aimed at addressing the gap between underserved and unserved areas.

As an MVNO, Routelink does not own a mobile spectrum license but can provide mobile services using the network of a licensed operator.

Femi Adeoti, the group managing director of Routelink Group, expressed excitement about the opportunities the MVNO licence brings, including lower costs, more service options, and improved quality of service.

Ikechukwu Nguzo, the managing director of Routelink telecom, believes the introduction of MVNOs in Nigeria has the potential to stimulate growth in the telecom industry and benefit consumers with expanded coverage and innovative services.

The NCC aims to create a competitive environment, generate employment, and offer choices for telecom consumers through MVNO licensing.
