The Recording Academy, the organizers of the Grammy Awards, has announced the creation of a new category called ‘Best African Music Performance.’

The academy revealed this addition, along with two other categories, in a statement published on its website.

The newly created categories include ‘Best Pop Dance Recording’ and ‘Best Alternative Jazz Album.’ Starting from next year’s show, these categories will be open for nominations.

The introduction of the ‘Best African Music Performance’ category recognizes the global impact of African acts such as Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Tems, as well as the rise of the Afrobeats genre.

The category encompasses a wide range of music styles from the African continent, including Afrobeats, Afro-pop, Amapiano, High Life, Fuji, and more.
