Abuja’s National Industrial Court has issued an arrest warrant for Inspector General of Police, Mr. Usman Alkali, and Force Secretary, AIG Hafeez Inuwa, after they were found in contempt of court for disobeying a previous court order.

The court had initially ordered the reinstatement of police officers from Courses 33, 34, and 35 of the police academy who were forcefully retired.

However, the order was allegedly ignored by the IG. In a recent court order on June 8, 2023, Justice Oyebiola Oyewumi expressed disappointment in the IG’s refusal to comply, despite advice from relevant stakeholders.

The court emphasized the importance of upholding the rule of law and held the IG and Force Secretary in contempt, mandating their arrest and appearance before the court. The case is adjourned until October 9, 2023.
