A woman named Rukayat Oderinde has been sentenced by the Bolade mobile court in Oshodi, Lagos, to 144 hours of community service for violating waste management regulations.
Oderinde, residing in Hassan Ogunmola Street, Ahamadiyya, Lagos, was caught illegally emptying her waste bin into a drainage channel by the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) enforcement team.
The act of disposing household waste directly into drainage channels is strictly prohibited as it poses a significant threat to the drainage system’s cleanliness and functionality.

In response to the incident, LAWMA’s Managing Director/CEO, Ibrahim Odumboni, highlighted the consequences of improper waste disposal, including clogged drains and increased risk of flooding and disease.
Odumboni emphasized the commitment to maintaining a clean and healthy environment and urged residents to utilize designated waste bins and engage with the assigned waste disposal operators.
