Between January and May 2023, a total of 1,174,392 birth registrations have been documented nationwide.
This data was collected using the RapidSMS application, developed by the National Population Commission.
RapidSMS serves as a platform for gathering and reporting information on birth registration, both online and offline.
The app provided a breakdown of the registrations, indicating that 362,798 were children under the age of one, 562,345 were children under five, and 249,249 were children over five.

Of the registered births, 580,820 were female and 593,572 were male. The registrations were conducted in 2,573 centers for females and 3,936 centers for males across the country.
The data from the app also revealed monthly registration figures, with 304,118 births registered in January, 142,142 in February, 267,583 in March, 228,456 in April, and 232,093 in May.
In terms of regional distribution, Lagos State had the highest number of birth registrations with 115,264, followed by Ogun with 82,296, and Bauchi with 76,767 registrations.
Other states recorded varying numbers of registrations, ranging from a few thousand to tens of thousands.
