Suspended Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele, has had his passport confiscated by the Department of State Services (DSS).
As part of their ongoing investigation into his office and the planned financial sector reforms, the DSS may also conduct searches of Emefiele’s home and office.
Emefiele was arrested by the DSS in Lagos and transported to Abuja on Saturday. The spokesperson for the DSS, Peter Afunanya, confirmed Emefiele’s custody and stated that his travel document was seized as a standard procedure during the investigation.

The DSS source revealed that the search of Emefiele’s residence and office would aim to locate documents relevant to the investigation into his management of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, argued that the DSS lacks the constitutional authority to investigate and prosecute Emefiele, suggesting that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) should handle the case instead.
