Six civilians killed in Al-Shabaab attack on Somali hotel

Islamist Al-Shabaab militants carried out a six-hour siege at a beachside hotel in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia, resulting in the deaths of six civilians and the injury of 10 others.

The attack took place at the Pearl Beach hotel, a popular spot along Mogadishu’s coastline, and ended after a gunfight between security forces and the militants.

All the attackers were killed during the battle. Al-Shabaab, an Al-Qaeda-linked group, has been engaged in an insurgency against the federal government for over 15 years and frequently targets hotels hosting high-ranking officials.
