The Joint Taskforce Committee on Refuse Evacuation in the Kano metropolis has successfully removed over 400 trucks of waste within a span of three days.
This information was disclosed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Alhaji Aliyu Yakubu Garo (Turakin Garo), during a visit to monitor the waste evacuation process.
The committee, established by the APC-led administration of Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, is chaired by Ambassador Ahmadu Haruna Danzago, with the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Environment as the committee’s secretary.
The main objective of the operation is to ensure proper waste disposal, keep the major roads clean, prevent blockage of waterways, and minimize flooding during the rainy season.

The Permanent Secretary visited multiple locations where the evacuation was taking place and expressed gratitude to the public for their cooperation.
He also emphasized the importance of regular drain desilting to prevent flooding. The Permanent Secretary commended the commitment of philanthropic individuals, including Chairman Alhaji Ahmadu Danzago, for their support.
He highlighted the administration’s dedication to environmental sanitation and urged residents to use waste baskets as directed by the government.
The Permanent Secretary believed that if this strategy continues, Kano will experience a significant transformation.
A resident of Kurna Asabe in Dala local government, Mallan Usman Nuhu, praised Governor Kabir Yusuf for initiating the Kano clean exercise, as the accumulated waste in the area had posed serious challenges and environmental risks to the community.
