INEC releases final list of governorship election candidates in Kogi, Bayelsa, and Imo states

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the official list of candidates for the upcoming governorship elections in Kogi, Bayelsa, and Imo states, scheduled for November 11, 2023.

INEC Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, confirmed the approval of the candidate list after a meeting held in Abuja on June 6.

This release adheres to the provisions of Section 32(1) of the Electoral Act 2022, which requires the publication of the list at least 150 days before the election day.

The final list has been made available on INEC’s website and social media platforms, and it will also be displayed in their State and Local Government offices in the respective states.

The statement revealed that all 18 political parties nominated candidates in Kogi, 17 in Bayelsa, and 16 in Imo.

It further noted the participation of female candidates from two parties in Bayelsa, one in Kogi, and none in Imo.

Campaigning by the political parties will commence on June 14 and conclude on November 9.
