Bolt and Uber drivers commence strike over low fares and 25% commission rate

E- drivers in Nigeria, organized under the Amalgamated Union Of App-Based Transport Workers Of Nigeria (AUATWON), have initiated a strike to protest against low fares and high commission rates imposed by Uber and Bolt, the country’s leading ride-hailing service providers.

This action coincides with a recent surge in petrol prices following the removal of subsidy payments by the Nigerian government.

The strike commenced after a meeting in Lagos, with drivers expressing dissatisfaction over the meager earnings and the soaring costs of living, including a 300% increase in spare parts prices.

The drivers are demanding a 200% fare increase and a 50% reduction in commission rates. They also seek an end to the arbitrary deactivation of drivers and the implementation of collective bargaining with AUATWON.

The drivers are urging fleet managers, driver-partners, and app-based transport workers across Nigeria to support the strike and advocate for their rights and fair treatment.
