Pro democracy group urges Nigeria’s first lady to remain focused despite online criticism

A pro-democracy group known as The Natives has called on Senator Oluremi Tinubu, Nigeria’s First Lady, to disregard online trolls and critics of the new administration.

Recently, the First Lady faced significant criticism on social media after a viral photograph showed her sitting alongside President Bola Tinubu, Governor of the Central Bank Godwin Emefiele, and the Group Managing Director of Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Mele Kyari, during a discussion on subsidy removal at the State House.

In a statement issued in Abuja, The Natives coordinator, Olalekan Smart Edwards, urged the First Lady to focus on her role as the mother of the nation and not be swayed by the criticism.

The group also called on Nigerians to adopt a positive stance to contribute to the progress of the nation.

Expressing their support for Senator Oluremi Tinubu, The Natives emphasized her duty to protect and support her husband’s vision while representing the expectations of the Nigerian people.

The group cited previous instances where former First Lady Aisha Buhari faced challenges before speaking up for voters and citizens.

They urged Nigerians to allow the First Family to fulfill their mandate without distractions and encouraged Senator Oluremi Tinubu to make a positive impact on the lives of millions of Nigerians, particularly the indigent, hopeless, orphans, and unskilled population.
