Family of kidnapped professor appeals to Abia state governor and representative for help

The family of Professor Uwedinachi Iweha, who was abducted a year ago, has reached out to Governor Alex Otti of Abia State and Obi Aguocha, the representative for Ikwuano/Umuahia at the National Assembly, urging them to intervene and push the state’s security agencies to resolve the matter.

Professor Iweha was kidnapped on June 5, 2022, in front of his home in Umuajameze Umuopara, Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia State, and no contact or information about his whereabouts has been received since.

At the time of his abduction, Professor Iweha served as the Provost of the College of Medicine at Gregory University, Uturu Amachara, Umuahia.

He also held previous positions as Chief Medical Officer of Abia State University Teaching Hospital and Chief Medical Director of Abia Specialist Hospital, Amachara.

During a press conference, Professor Iweha’s son, Engr. Chukwudi Iweha, expressed the family’s distress and shock over the situation, highlighting the lack of communication from the abductors and the security forces.

The Nigerian Medical Association, Abia State chapter, has staged protests and even embarked on a three-day strike in June 2022 to draw attention to the government’s inaction.

The family has acknowledged the efforts made by the security forces but expressed disappointment that the real culprits behind the abduction have not been identified or their father returned
