Abuja traders express concerns over rising transport fares impacting business

Traders in Abuja are expressing their frustration over the increase in transportation fares caused by the rise in petrol pump prices.

In interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria, they shared their disappointment and highlighted the challenges they are facing.

Following President Bola Tinubu’s statement about the removal of fuel subsidy, long queues have reappeared at petrol stations in major cities, particularly in Abuja.

This has resulted in higher transportation costs, impacting the livelihoods of traders and vendors who rely on daily commuting.

Various traders have voiced their concerns about the soaring fares. Agatha Emmanuel, a corn seller, mentioned her inability to access fresh corn due to the expensive transportation fares.

Another trader, Mrs. Edna Oke, complained about the significant increase in transportation costs from her residence to the market, making it difficult to maintain affordable prices for her plantains.

Food vendors, like Mrs. Eunice Okafor, have also been affected, as they have had to raise food prices due to the rising transportation expenses and increased costs of foodstuffs.

The surge in transportation fares is also impacting businesses beyond the food industry. Mr. Idowu Arogundade, a solar panel distributor, expressed concerns about the sudden fuel price hike affecting the delivery of his orders.
