Former Ekiti governor, Fayemi, interrogated by EFCC in N4bn money laundering probe

Former Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, is currently undergoing questioning at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) zonal command office in Ilorin, Kwara State.

He is being interrogated regarding an alleged N4 billion money laundering case. Fayemi arrived at the EFCC facility on Thursday morning.

Earlier in May, Fayemi had requested to present a book in honor of former President Muhammadu Buhari before complying with the EFCC’s invitation for questioning.

Sources confirmed that Fayemi is being grilled by EFCC operatives over the misappropriation of the said N4 billion. The outcome of the interrogation will determine whether he will be released or detained.

The EFCC spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, declined to comment on the matter. In a separate investigation, the EFCC is also probing former Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle, for allegations of corruption, phantom contract awards, and diversion of over N70 billion.

The EFCC made this information public to counter Matawalle’s recent attempt to discredit the agency’s anti-corruption efforts.
