APC oppose submission of BVAS evidence at presidential tribunal

In recent developments at the Presidential Election Petition Court in Abuja, objections have been raised by President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) regarding the submission of evidence extracted from the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines used in the 2023 presidential election.

Tinubu’s legal team, led by Wole Olanipekun, challenged the admissibility of certified printouts from BVAS presented by Atiku Abubakar, the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate.

Atiku, represented by Chris Uche, tendered the documents, which were certified by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and pertained to 33 states.

INEC opposed the admissibility, except for BVAS printouts from Kogi, Sokoto, and Rivers states, while the APC supported Tinubu’s stance.

The objections and arguments will be further addressed in final written addresses. Despite objections, the court, led by Justice Haruna Tsammani, admitted the BVAS documents as evidence and assigned them as Exhibits PT 1 to PT 33.

Atiku also submitted certified results from Abia, Bayelsa, Kaduna, and Ogun states, with objections raised against their admissibility.

The proceedings were adjourned due to the illness of key staff members in a separate petition filed by the candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi.
