Bola Tinubu inherits over N16.29tn uncompleted projects

According to a report, Nigeria’s new President, Bola Tinubu, has officially inherited over N16.29tn worth of uncompleted projects from his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari.

These projects were identified through the national monitoring and evaluation platform called EYEMARK, which was launched by Buhari in December of the previous year.

Buhari recognized that the Federal Government needed a more comprehensive monitoring and evaluation system to oversee the numerous infrastructure projects scattered across the country.

The EYEMARK platform was designed to bridge the existing gaps and promote citizen participation in governance by providing public access to project status, total allocated funds, and expenditure details.

The EYEMARK data revealed that around 33 projects are still incomplete. Notable among them is the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, which is at 85% completion but has faced delays in reopening due to heavy traffic.

Another significant project is the Bodo-Bonny Road, which is 75% complete and set to be finished in December 2023.

The Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline, estimated at $25bn, remains the most expensive unfinished project. Other projects include the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano pipeline and the Greater Abuja Water Project, among others.
