Seun Kuti criticizes AY for accepting national award

Seun Kuti has expressed his disappointment with comedian Ayo Makun, popularly known as AY, over his justification for not rejecting a national honour bestowed upon him.

The announcement of the national honours list by former President Muhammadu Buhari’s Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs included AY, along with other celebrities such as Davido, Kunle Afolayan, and Victor Osimhen, to be conferred with the award.

In response to critics questioning his acceptance of the honour, AY defended his decision, stating that a national honour represents the highest recognition for contributions to nation-building and that he is proud to be rewarded by his country.

Seun Kuti, however, found AY’s explanation unnecessary and took to Instagram to criticize him.

Seun Kuti emphasized that the selection for national honours is not determined by public opinion but rather by a presidential committee, and he urged AY to accept his “Buhari award” without further explanation, accusing him of hypocrisy and lacking a backbone.
