Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni has approved some of the world’s strictest laws targeting the LGBTQ community.
The legislation includes provisions such as the death penalty for “aggravated homosexuality,” which encompasses acts involving minors, HIV-positive individuals, and incest.
The bill also criminalizes sex education for LGBTQ individuals and mandates reporting of alleged perpetrators of “aggravated homosexuality” to the police.

It further promotes widely discredited practices like conversion therapy as a means of “rehabilitation” for gay offenders.
Despite earlier revisions requested by Museveni, the bill has now been signed into law. LGBTQ activists express deep concern, fearing increased violence and discrimination as a result of the legislation.
