The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has issued National Identification Numbers (NIN) to more than 100 million Nigerians, according to the Federal Government.
The Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy has revealed the commissioning of 4366 Digital Economy Projects.
During the virtual inauguration of these projects, Minister Isa Ali Pantami highlighted the remarkable growth of the NIMC database, which expanded from 39 million records 13 years ago to over 100 million in less than three years.
Pantami also noted that the registration process, which previously took 13 years and a significant amount of funds, has been supported by the Corporate Social Responsibilities of certain technology giants since October 2020.
The minister further shared that President Muhammadu Buhari has approved a salary increase of over 300% for NIMC staff.
Numerous digital economy projects across different locations in Nigeria were commissioned by Pantami, who also unveiled an achievement compendium summarizing the unprecedented projects accomplished during his tenure.
The minister highlighted the ICT sector’s contributions to the country’s GDP and its favorable review by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and KPMG.
As part of the event, Pantami also inaugurated 10 logistics trucks for the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) using the service’s internally generated revenue.
