Former INEC Chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega, has attributed the deteriorating security situation in Nigeria to inadequate governance.
Speaking as the keynote speaker at the Pre-Inaugural Lecture honoring the governor-elect of Niger State, Umaru Bago Mohammed, Jega highlighted that the current national security challenges stem from mismanagement of Nigeria’s diverse population and poor governance exacerbated by the exploitation of ethno-religious identities, particularly during political and electoral processes.

He further emphasized the alarming increase in casualties and kidnappings resulting from the worsening security conditions, urging all levels of government to engage in effective collaboration to address the situation.
