The Nigerian Federal Government has initiated the process of dismantling the remaining floodlights at the National Stadium in Lagos.
This decision follows the collapse of one of the floodlight pillars during a windstorm last month, leading to concerns about the safety of the remaining structures.
The deteriorating condition of the stadium, which is over 51 years old, has prompted outgoing Minister Sunday Dare to conduct multiple inspections of the facility.
In a Twitter statement, Dare emphasized the need for caution and public safety, announcing the temporary closure of the stadium and surrounding areas for assessment and necessary action.

The removal of the floodlights has commenced, as seen by engineers utilizing cranes to dismantle one of them. The sports ministry has not provided official comments on the ongoing dismantling process.
