Around 1,500 families in central Mozambique are facing displacement due to attacks by wild animals, including crocodiles and buffaloes, according to Henriqueta de Rosário, the head of the local administration in Marromeu district.
The local government has made plans to transfer these families to ensure their safety. Reports indicate that three people have already lost their lives due to wildlife attacks in the first quarter of 2023.

Buffaloes from the Marromeu Special Reserve in the Zambezi River delta have encroached upon residential areas, prompting residents to seek refuge on river islands.
Even on the islands, they remain at risk of crocodile attacks. The escalating conflict between humans and wildlife is a growing concern, with many people being threatened.
Already, 400 individuals have voluntarily signed up to leave the area.
