The Chief Justice of the Federal High Court, John Terhemba Tsoho, has reportedly issued a directive preventing judges from handling cases related to the presidential election or the upcoming swearing-in/inauguration ceremony.
This decision aims to ensure the smooth inauguration of Bola Tinubu as the next President of Nigeria.
The Chief Judge also ordered that such cases be transferred to Abuja for review.
A litigant, Mr. Abduyusuf Rufa’i, confirmed this development and expressed his discontent.
Rufa’i had filed a lawsuit seeking the court’s interpretation of Section 134 of the Nigerian Constitution, and his case was transferred to Abuja in compliance with the Chief Judge’s order.

In his text message, Rufa’i voiced his concerns over the perceived violation of his rights and the urgency to prevent the swearing-in of an allegedly illegitimate president.
Meanwhile, a covering letter obtained by reporters revealed the transfer of Rufa’i’s case to Abuja, in accordance with the Chief Judge’s circular on presidential election-related matters.
The letter directed the attention of the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court to the case for further action.
Rufa’i’s lawsuit sought declarations regarding the interpretation of Section 134 of the Constitution and the eligibility of Ahmed Bola Tinubu as the President-elect.
He also requested an injunction to halt the presidential inauguration until the resolution of the presidential election petitions in the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal or the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
