President Muhammadu Buhari has given his approval for the appointment of Dr Obinna Awiaka as the Registrar of the Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians Registration Board of Nigeria (ODORBN), effective from June 1, 2023.
ODORBN is the regulatory agency responsible for overseeing the training and practice of Optometry and Dispensing Opticianry in Nigeria.
The Minister of State for Health, Hon. Joseph Ekumankama, presented the approval letter to Dr Awiaka during a brief ceremony in Abuja.
The Minister urged the newly appointed Registrar to foster collaboration among all stakeholders, reconcile differences, and work harmoniously to advance the agency.

He encouraged Dr Awiaka to embrace innovation and focus on improving existing systems rather than reinventing the wheel.
Expressing his gratitude for the appointment, Dr Awiaka commended President Buhari and the Minister for entrusting him with this responsibility.
He acknowledged the Minister’s vision, passion, and integrity, considering him a role model for public servants. Dr Awiaka praised the Minister’s work ethic, leadership style, and ability to assemble a competent team within the Ministry.
