Babatunde Fashola introduces 10 year national housing strategy

During the launch of the National Housing Strategy Blueprint, Babatunde Fashola, the Minister of Works and Housing, acknowledged that the government alone cannot fulfill the housing requirements of Nigerians.

He emphasized the importance of creating an enabling environment for the private sector to play a significant role.

The strategic blueprint, spanning ten years, aims to consolidate various housing initiatives into a unified national strategy.

Fashola admitted that despite the government’s efforts in affordable housing, the private sector remains the primary driver of housing solutions in the country.

He highlighted the document’s potential to harness private capital and unleash its power in the sector.

Fashola also stressed the need for accurate data and mentioned the upcoming population census, which will shed light on the real extent of housing challenges in Nigeria.

The blueprint, based on pillars of affordability, standardization, accessibility, suitability, and sustainability, aims to provide quality housing for all Nigerians and contribute to sustainable economic growth.
